Did you know that there is an estimated number of 2,500 animal shelters in Canada, taking in more than 4 million dogs and cats each year? Sadly, less than half of these animals in need ever find a home... but shelters still need funding to support them. Overpopulation is a growing problem and can be greatly reduced by spaying and neutering your pets.
Needless to say, overpopulation contributes to overcrowded shelters and at least 3 million cats and dogs are facing euthanasia each year! The good news is that there are many ways to help these animals... from volunteering at your local shelter to fundraising for animal charities to donating well needed supplies.

For March 2021 we would be so grateful for dedicated volunteers to work one or more shifts per week! Volunteer duties include socializing dogs and cats, cleaning kennels and feeding animals, and helping with the adoption process. You can also volunteer as a foster parent so you can provide a loving, temporary home to shelter or rescue animals until a furever home is found for them.
Due to Covid restrictions, fundraising in 2021 has been on the back burner for many charities.
Our costs include rent, utilities, as well as, food and litter, and we also pay for all of the animals that come into our care to get their first shots and they are spayed or neutered. On top of those costs, the Hanna SPCA has an ongoing WISH LIST of supplies:
- Canned cat food (Pate only please)
- Dry cat food (for adults and kittens)
- Cat treats
- Kitten Milk
- Spray cleaners (without bleach)
- Disinfecting wipes
- Aerosol air fresheners
- Laundry detergent
- Dryer sheets
- Paper Towels
- Mr. Clean
- Dish soap
- Hand sanitizer
- Garbage bags
- Scratching posts/cat towers/cat toys
- Covered Cat Litter Boxes

- Cash donations and gift cards from Freson Bros. and Super A are also very welcome and so appreciated.

Thank-you so much for your support!
